Socks That Rock! * Hard Rock *

12th pair of the year! Short Row Heel and Toe! Did nothing but knit the sock! Didn't plan the strips they just happened on both all by themselves! Don't you just love em when they do it on their own! Pretty much followed Mustang Sally's info below. Started with 36 each side and moved on to add 2 on instep side when toe area is done. Left 14 for toe center. Then worked 100 rows until I got to heel. Worked heel with 10 left in center. Added 2 more on heel to 38 each side for thick ankles. Worked 38 rows straight knitting and K4P1 for 10 rows and bind off. I used the crazy heel and toe bind off. It is one of my favorites. Needle was 2.5m (1 1/2) knit picks. Would you believe I have not checked the gauge on either one of the Blue Moon Socks I have made. I just guessed at what they should be and it worked out great. That doesn't happen often believe me. I could have done 2 more rows per sock but that would have been it.

Storage of stash!

I forgot to say so I am adding here at the top. Pattens and small books fit great too with the yarn and needles.
These are my favorite things to plan my next project. I use them to carry it with me. The magic loop fits great in the tall ones with the socks in progress. I just grab the one that has a sock project started and head out the door. I set it on the seat next to me and when I am parked waiting for hubby or grandma I pull out the sock and work on it. The skein stays in the bottom of the container rolled in a ball. I never chase it around the car. When I have to leave I just put the sock back with needles and close the top and drive away. I have a big purse so it works for talking it to the doctors office, ball park or anywhere else. I have even made it my purse when I don't want to carrry too much stuff just put my change purse and keys in the bottom. I haven't had any problem with the keys catching my yarn since they are on the bottom. I have used the the largest one with yarn and everything else I wanted to carry in it. (The biggest one is in the back hard to see)It works great in a shopping cart when you go to a warehouse and have to wait in long lines. I stand and work on my sock and get lots if attention from others wanting to know what I am doing. At home I set it on the table or floor and work right out of it. It stays standing. These are waiting projects that is why you don't see needles with socks in progress. I pick a few a head of time and place them in the container and then on the shelves to look at while I am working on the current projects. Usually have 2 or 3 containers with started socks. That way I always have something easy to do when I go out. I will take a picture later of the 3 sizes and one with a sock in progress so you can see how they look. At first the only place I found them was Joanne's then it was Target and now Walmart has them. Target and Joanne's here in my area don't carry them anymore. I don't have a cat but I am sure it would work for some of them. My mother does and her cat can't get the ball so he just gives up and go away. I can knit in peace. Hurray!

Sneak Peek!

Mustang Sally - Socks That Rock!

These pictures are lighter than the actual socks. Haven't washed them yet so I don't know if they will run. I hope not since I love the color as it is.
This is my first pair of Blue Moon Socks. I love the yarn so far. Details on how they were made see below on previous post. My five year old is enjoying her books. She is now reading everything including my emails. I love to see her face when she finds another book she can read.

This picture is to show the color.

Socks That Rock - Blue Moon Fiber Arts

11th pair this year! I love these so much! It is the color that is great so I hope they don't fade. Still have to take a picture. Started 3-22-08 Finished April-1-08 except for hiding strings and taking pictures.

Color is Mustang Sally
Knit Picks needle 2.5 (1 1/2)
Cast on 72 with 36 per side by short row toe
Left 14 for center of toe
Increased 2 on instep side when toes increases were done (38)
First time I did this and really love the way it is coming out as a sock. It helps a lot for high instep or fat feet.
Left 10 for center of heel
Increased again on 38 in step side to 40 following the heel completion. This make it work great for larger ankles.
Straight knitting then K2 P2 ribbing for 14 rows. It might have been more but I pretty much ran out of yarn. I have a very tiny bit left. Maybe one more row but I was too afraid to try it. Wish they would come out with a bigger hank with about 1/4 more than the size they have now. It would be even better if it was only 1/4 the price of one so you wouldn't have to buy a whole hank. It would be the price of one whole one with 1/4 added with 1/4 more. Can dream.

Knit Picks Felici Atmosphere

8th pair of the year!
Finished the toe closing today 3-16-08 so now they are done and ready to wash.
The Blues are very pretty! It looks like a boy sock but I think a girl could wear it anyway!
Don't believe I will buy anymore of this yarn unless it washes up very well. Very soft feel to knit with but I don't like the fact that each ball is 50 grams and I couldn't make them match perfect without wasting yarn that I would need to make an adult pair. I don't have that problem with Opal in 100 grams if I choose to match them. A solid color would work fine. But they don't make this yarn in solids.

Cherry Tree Hill "Birthday Socks" Martha's Vineyard

Started 3-04-08
Finished 3-16-08
I know these are terrible pictures but it is all I have for the moment. I am wearing them now and they are so soft and warm. Not even washed yet.
One thing I can say is the stripping came out very strange.

Happy Birthday to me!

I got up this morning thinking I would start a pair of socks for myself on my birthday. I cast on for toe up short row. I can't believe my eyes later in the day when I count my stitches. What was I thinking! I made some adjustments to the stitch count and a way we go. I don't really care for this color combination but I am using all of my sock yarn one at a time. It was time for this hank!

Lorna's Laces Bulky -- Violet -- need 2 for pair

This would make 6 pairs for 08. Started and finished in February 08.
These are her walk around socks. I was surprised to see her wearing them with her sandals around the house. I didn't think they would fit since it is bulky yarn.

Need one hank for each knee sock. Used a Knit picks needle size 6 (4.0) K2 P2 cuff. Decreased down to 36 and did the flap heel. Don't have anymore info on these socks. Didn't take notes just kept trying it on baby girl. Yes, it is another for her. I want to her to be able to change to fresh socks often. I don't like to wear mine more than one day. Same for daddyo and baby girl.

I learned as long as I use a big enough needle they are not that bad to make. It is hard on my hands and shoulders if I use a needle to small for the yarn. I am a tight knitter and I am sure others would have used a much bigger needle. As you can see they want you to use an 10 needle. I used a 6. I got 5.5 stitches per inch. They say you should get 3.5 per inch. The fabric firmness was perfect.

Lora's Laces Worsted Weight -- 162 Icehouse --2

Need 2 hanks to make a pair of socks.
Started and Finished in Feb 08. #5 pair of the year.
Needle Addi 3 (3.25) Cast on 56. K2 P2 cuff. Decrease down to 48 to do the heel flap. Didn't take great notes. Can't give more info than this.

Another knee sock for baby girl! Lorna's yarn is always great to work with.

Knit Pick - Ballerina - Swish Superwash - need 4 skeins for pair

Started and Finished in Feb 08. I have no idea why these pictures are burry. They were taken the same way as the others and look great on my viewer. Maybe I will try and reload them another day and see if there is a difference then. Sorry. Don't have more then info noted here on this blog on how they were made since I didn't do much in the way of notes. Just measured her as I went.
Need 4 skeins of worsted weight knit picks yarn. It is so pretty. I can't wait to try the sports weight on a pair of socks. Swish Superwash that is.
Cast on 60 decreased down to 52. Would do 48 if I was to ever make another pair. She will grow into them anyway. Second change would be the cast on should be 64 instead of 60. I think it maybe because of the needle size 2. I will have to remeasure her leg and reswatch when the time comes.
Need size knit picks (3.25) suggested need on label is 6-9. I think it is interesting how much smaller I have gone to get the firmness of the fabric for the socks. I started with a size 2 but it was too hard on my hands so I switched to a 3.
Gauge 7.5 per inch. Suggested gauge was 4.5 - 5 stitches per inch. I got 8 when I used the size 2 needle.

Can't think of anything else to add.

Another knee sock! for my little one! The top one is the Knit Picks one. It is a worsted weight yarn. I loved knitting with it! It washed up beautiful! I made them a little bigger for growth. Wish they would last until after next winter but I am sure that is too much to ask. I am glad I am done with these socks this season. Worsted weight and bulky are my least favorite to make. I still have 2 pairs to make for others but hopefully this is it for daughter until next year. I enjoy sports and fingers weight so much more. Matter of fact, I have been wanting to cast on a pair all week so I can do a little when I have a few extra minutes.
